Zhou Youguang School of Languages and Cultures traces its origins to the English branch of the Department of Fundamental Courses established in 1978, which originally provided English language teaching service to the University. After 37 years of development, it has grown into a large school with five departments, namely, Department of College English Studies, Department of English Language and Literature, Department of Japanese Language and Literature, Department of Spanish Language and Literature, and Department of Chinese Language and Literature. Curricular innovations revise rich traditions to keep pace with rapidly evolving social, cultural, economical and technological development. The school is deepening advanced programs of study in English language and literature, cross-university initiatives including joint degree programs and study abroad opportunities.
